Old concrete or timber lintels above doorways and windows are often subject to failure in older properties and need to be replaced or new lintels installed to increase an existing or create a new opening. If the wall is load bearing then acro props are installed to carry the weight of the above masonry while a newly designed lintel is fitted. It’s important to install the necessary trays above and behind the lintel in cavity walls with weep holes.
Some projects
Patio door lintel replacement Redruth
The original concrete lintel had failed with ingress of water which had rusted the pre stressed embedded steel. The frame of the patio doors was holding up the outside skin of the wall above it. Render cut back to two courses of brick above, strong boys installed and and lintel and block removed. New lintel installed with cavity tray behind the new bricks with weep holes to direct any water ingress in the cavity to the outside. Cement render then installed with a Tyrolean finish to match existing ready for paint.

Lounge/kitchen opening- Truro
The clients wanted to open the space between the lounge and kitchen. Fortunately the above wall was not load bearing so no need for bracing and tiles removed and existing block work cut back stich drilling and a bolster to prevent dust. New wider lintel installed and all masonry made good with a seamless plaster skim finish ready for decoration.

Window lintel replacement- Portreath
Once again the lintel had failed on a 1970’s property overlooking the bay of Portreath. Have to say a lovely location. The original lintel was poured in concrete in situ so had to cut it back and out and install a new concrete prestressed lintel and masonry. Scratch coat rendered and then pebble dashed to match existing.
