The client had a void beneath their kitchen and wanted to enlarge it to create a wine cellar. There was a narrow outside access from the steps where they used to store their bicycles. 80+ wheelbarrows of earth were excavated to go deeper and the walls were underpinned. An aperture was cut for access through the kitchen floor and trapdoors made from new timber and original floorboards. Masonry shelving walls were built to receive wine racks and brick floor installed. The outside opening was closed with bricks and rendered to match existing. New timber steps and handrail were built and the interior cladded with tongue and groove. They have some great wine in Australia!
